Design Technician

We are seeking an experienced Design Technician with strong 3D solid modelling skills to join our Design Department.
The role will focus primarily on designing and preparing detailed manufacturing drawings and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor, while also supporting the transition of design information into BIM environments using Revit and Navisworks.

Job Description

Working closely with the BIM Manager and Project Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in turning project and client requirements into accurate, manufacturable designs, while gaining exposure to collaborative BIM workflows used across our major data centre projects.

This position is ideal for someone with a solid background in mechanical or product design who is looking to apply their technical skills in a practical, engineering-led manufacturing environment with the opportunity to develop BIM expertise over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce 3D models, fabrication details, and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Create assemblies and bills of materials (BOMs) for polymer pipe systems and fabricated components.
  • Ensure all drawings meet CPV’s manufacturing standards and are production ready.
  • Support the BIM Manager with Revit model updates and coordination.
  • Assist in the preparation of general arrangement drawings and layout plans.
  • Review and interpret client drawings, specifications and 3D models.
  • Contribute to Navisworks coordination and clash detection when required.
  • Liaise with project engineers, workshop teams, and site staff to resolve design issues efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate drawing registers, templates, and revision control.=

Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

  • Proven experience in 3D solid modelling and technical drawing using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
  • Understanding of fabrication, manufacturing and mechanical assembly processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, well-structured drawings.
  • Confident interpreting technical documentation, schematics, and specifications.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a project team.
  • Willingness to learn Revit and Navisworks to support BIM coordination.

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with pipe systems, mechanical services, or industrial product design.
  • Familiarity with BIM standards (BS 1192, ISO 19650) or federated model workflows.
  • Previous experience coordinating design information between CAD and BIM environments.
